Custom Domains
Publish your web apps and workflow endpoints under your own domain, with SSL included.
How it works
Domains belong to the workspace. Once a domain is verified, any project in that workspace can use it:
- Each project picks one custom domain. Its web apps and workflows are served under it.
- Each web app in the project gets its own subdomain of that domain, such as
app.example.com, or the root domain itself,example.com.
Without a custom domain, projects use ubex.ai, which is always available.
Step 1: Add the domain
- Go to Settings → Workspace → Domains.
- Click Add domain.
- Enter your root domain, for example
example.com. Don't addwwwor a subdomain; you choose subdomains later, per web app. - Click Add domain.
The domain appears with the status Pending verification, DNS pending and SSL pending, and a Set up DNS table underneath.
Step 2: Add the DNS records
Log in to the company where you manage your domain's DNS (your registrar or DNS host) and add the three records shown under Set up DNS:
| For | Type | Name | Value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Root domain | A |
@ |
The IP address shown on the Domains page |
| Subdomains | CNAME |
* |
proxy.ubex.ai |
| Ownership | TXT |
@ |
ubex-verify=... (a code unique to your domain) |
Use the copy buttons on the Domains page to copy each value exactly. The TXT code is different for every domain.
If
example.comalready shows a website hosted somewhere else, changing itsArecord moves the domain to Ubex. Check with whoever runs the current site before you change it.
Step 3: Check DNS
Back on the Domains page, click Check DNS.
- When everything is correct, the domain shows DNS verified, SSL active and Verified. The SSL certificate is set up for you.
- If something is missing, a Still to fix list explains what Ubex could not find.
DNS changes can take a few minutes to publish. If the check fails right after you saved the records, wait a little and click Check DNS again.
Step 4: Use the domain in a project
- Open Studio.
- In the Projects list on the left, right-click the project and choose Project settings.
- Under Custom domain, pick your verified domain.
- Click Save changes.
Only verified domains appear in this list. If it says there are no verified domains yet, finish steps 2 and 3 first.
Step 5: Choose each web app's address
- Open the web app in Studio.
- Click the Settings icon in the top-right corner of the builder and open Domain.
- In Subdomain, type the subdomain for this app, for example
appforapp.example.com. Leave it empty to serve the app at the root domain,example.com. - Click Save, then Publish.
Changing the subdomain moves the live site: the old address stops working.
Removing a domain
On the Domains page, click the trash icon next to the domain and confirm Remove domain. Projects that use it lose their custom domain and go back to ubex.ai.
Troubleshooting
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| Could not read TXT records | The TXT record is not published yet, or it was added under the wrong name. Its name must be @ (the root domain) |
| The domain and its subdomains don't resolve to the IP address yet | Add the A record for @ and the CNAME record for *, exactly as shown |
| Could not verify ownership | Check the TXT value matches the code on the Domains page character for character |
